Default Ooh, a sneaky peak at Mirror Sky!

I figured that since I've already shown quite a few people the prologue, and it won't give much away, there won't be a chance of it getting ripped off. So here is a sneak peak at what I'm working on.

Prologue- Meet me at Midnight

I slowly approached the clearing in which we chose to meet up in. The shadows were twisted and the moonlight pale. There was an eerie feel about the place, accompanied by the dread which rose up as bile in my throat.

Trees surrounded the area, spindly branches stretching towards the sky in a cursive manner. The bright white flowers glowed in the illusive mist lit up by the moon, dotting the floor with white spots, glowing gently as I took small but confident steps towards the centre.

The centre where she waited for me.

Her ruby eyes sparkled in under the dim light, but that didn’t stop the sadistic glint from showing itself. She had a short sword drawn and ready, pointing at me whilst I unsheathed my twin daggers. There were no words exchanged – actions speak louder than words, after all. When my weapon was out, pointing directly at her as if to mirror her stance, it was mere milliseconds before the silence was disrupted.

I left up into the air, deciding to attack from above and therefore making the first move. However, as I brought one of the blades down, she blocked it with ease – she wasn’t going to let me off easy. Pushing back the first dagger with her own blade, she forced me into a backwards flip through the air again, before charging at me, tip aimed at my stomach.

I side-stepped the attack, attempting to strike from the side only for my blade to be met by hers again, blade swung at an awkward angle but still stiff and its place held. She stopped the second thrust aimed at her neck by twisting her body and blade. Spinning around quickly, I was sent backwards so that she could charge at me with more momentum.

I waited for her to get nearer so I could figure out where she was going to attack. The second which it took for her to assume the position for her attack, I had already jumped up again, avoiding the swipe at my legs. I liked being in the air – it allowed me to conjure some white assist magic to propel me forwards and more importantly, behind her where I could slash at her back. Which, of course, I did.

But, with lighting reflexes, she moved out of the way before I had dealt serious damage. I knew what she was going to do, and instinctively moving the blade upwards so that she would hit the part closest to the hilt, the most efficient place to block with, using my other weapon to stab, only missing again as she twisted and landed beside me.

Her eyes stared into mine, a few strands of raven hair sweeping in from of her face. She had bloodlust in her eyes, mad grin which now graced her features and undoubtedly matched mine. We stopped there, not breaking eye contact as we put away the weapons which we were using. I reached to my back, pulling out a midnight sword as she pulled out a white one, moving in unison and practiced timing. I licked my lips in anticipation of what was to come - warm-ups were over, and it was time to get serious.

We traded blows until we were panting harshly, never once stopping to give the other a chance to breathe or recover – it could take just a second to catch a breath, but that second could be a fatal mistake during a battle, as a second is all the time an opponent needs to gain the upper hand.

The pale flowers which once dotted the floor were scattered, petals dispersed because of the amount of activity on the ground, but I couldn’t really bring myself to care. All that mattered at that moment was me, her and the swords between us as they clashed with each other, speaking for us in a language of action instead of words.

I watched the sparks fly as she blocked yet another strike which was aimed to her midsection. The subtle glow of white around her hinted that she was using white magic to do something, perhaps to heal whilst she held her blade against me, pushing with all her might, or maybe to set up a trick where I would fall in.

I spared a glance around the area, searching for any telltale signs of disruption by magic. Unfortunately, whilst I had my eyes off her, she moved backwards, causing me to lose balance from the suddenly disappearing force against my blade. The moon reflected off the white metal, pale light catching my eye.

But I got bored of messing around. I had to finish this quickly or I would not be able to complete what I was going to do. Despite that, I still looked at the figure in front of me – only to find that she had gone. I had to remind myself that I was the smarter one - she could beat me in strength, but I had the upper-hand in terms of intelligence.

I looked around desperately, trying to catch some clue as to where she had gone and how she had done it, when I heard the wind suddenly getting stronger from behind. I reacted as fast as I could, catching her off guard – obviously she had not expected me to catch the following blow and twist it around so that she was thrown backwards. I quickly advanced, not noticing the dark sphere gathering in her hands as she lay on the ground. I took light steps towards my target, but when I finally noticed something was amiss, it was already too late to change my course.

I was heading straight towards her, but she had thrown the sphere at me.

It hit with a force which stole my breath, burning my insides while I struggled to continue at the pace I had set myself, but nothing could be done about it. The pain dissipated, but I knew that damage that had caused a moment’s hesitation had cast me this round.

It shouldn’t have mattered – the enemy was already on the ground and drained of energy, as well as tired out from our battle which took place earlier. But who knew that she would have enough energy to conjure dark magic? Surely she had not been taught it before.

I walked up beside her unconscious body - picking it up from beside her, but when I bent down, I dropped my own. This was not supposed to happen. Not at all. The question buzzed through my mind, not comprehending how it could have happened. What? How? Why? I could not understand the reason for this, but there was no time to panic. Is she was to wake up now, it would all be for naught. I’d have to play the part, without the change. I would have to be a sacrifice.

CC would be brilliant, and do remember that I have yet to edit this so there are mistakes galore in here - do feel free to tell me where they are and I'll fix 'em up :>
